Tsunami.

Watching the events surrounding the Chilean earthquake and the tsunami warnings that have followed it I was reminded how lucky we are in this part of the world that we do not, usually, have to face the effects of such events. The only earth tremor I can remember in these parts was about 1998 or 9 and whilst it certainly rattled a few windows in these parts, failed even to wake me up.

In the event jof a Tsunami affecting the atlantic and the west coast of scotland I would be right in the firing line, living as I do, right on the harbourside. A big wave coming up the Clyde estuary and I am afraid that the ground floor flat in which I live would be the first to go. Worse then that, its probably a good two miles or so to the nearest high ground where one might find a place of safety. So, its best to hope that the faultlines in the Atlantic remain quiet and that passing asteroids keep passing as even a small one landing in our neighbouring ocean could have disasterous consequences.

Dreich

Dreich, is a good scottish word describing miserable, damp, cold weather and that is what we have been experiencing here for most of the past week. Whilst the Highlands have been buried under several feet of snow and plagued by collapsing power lines the weather here has remained just...dreich.

Hopefully with the new month due on monday and the days drawing out we shall have something more to look forward to then the continuation of dreichness. Hopefully, the met office, bouyed up by its newly paid out bonusus, will be able to forecast better weather ahead...and get it right.

The Truth Is Out There ?.

I spent this evening watching several episodes of that quintisential part of the pre millenium paranoia machine 'The X Files'. The FBI agents, Mulder and Scully battle against the forces of darkness, sometimes paranormal and sometimes controlled by secret cabals intent on retaining control of the world with the aid of technology aquired from extra terrestrial aliens. What the makers of 'The X Files' could not have forseen was that their view of the world as being controlled by a conspiricy of secretive elites would soon be almost incorperated into the mainstream by the events of 0/11 and the whole 9?11 truth industry that has grown up since those events, often with disturbing undertones of the anti jewish conspiricy theories that eventuallyt led to the holocaust.

The reality is that the truth is out there but it is not of some vast world wide conspiricy controlling events but of a number of often interlinked groups who would love to dominate the planet but are eternally stymied by the competing intereats of the disperate groups and individuals who are their components. The rreality of the elites, actual and potential, who seek to dominate our world and their competing interests are far more complex then any scenario facing Mulder and Scully.

Why Pier 9.?.

You might well wonder why this blog is titled 'Pier 9'. I think that titles with a number in them tend to attract more attention then might otherwise be the case. Would 'Catch 22' have gained as much attention if it had been called something else ?.'Pier 9', to me anyway has that certain air of mystery about it redolent of dark deeds on dark nights down at the docks.

In reality, Pier 9 is a disused bar just across the road from where I live in Ayr. I dont know when it closed under that name but I remember years ago it went under the name The Harbour Bar and was well known for having a fine collection of old marine radio equipment. It also had a reputation for being the haunt of ladies of the night. Where they went when the bar closed I do not know and even if I did I would not be telling as this, after all, is not Punternet.

So Pier 9 is a geographical location and the blog that is named after it will carry my observations on life in the period beyond Silvertonia.
